UWAK DARES GOV AKPABIO
… Says Infrastructural Development In The Area Is Zero
The fracas between Governor Godswill Akpabio and the member representing Oron Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Mr. Robinson Uwak, has taken a new dimension with a vote of confidence and expression of solidarity on the National Assemblyman by the Council of Oro Traditional Rulers.
In a statement signed by its Chairman and Secretary, Ovong E.
Isemin and Offong Nyong Nkereuwem, the Council, which is an apex traditional
institution in Oro Nation, called on the State Government to take adequate
remedial action to urgently redress the deliberate cycle of marginalization and
neglect visited on the people of the area and for the Federal Government to
take the needed steps to approve a University status for the Maritime Academy
of Nigeria, Oron.
According to the statement, “the Council expresses its strong
support for Hon. Robinson Uwak’s passionate appeal on facebook for fair play,
truth, justice and equity to prevail in the selection.”
It could be recalled that in a letter dated August 11, 2014,
addressed to the State Governor, captioned “Formal Invitation to a Presentation
of Scorecards/Debate and Live State of Infrastructure Tour,” the National
Assemblyman responded to calls made by the Governor’s Office requesting a
public presentation of his achievement so far.
“The areas to be covered in the debate, Mr. Uwak stated in the letter, include infrastructure, education, health, human capacity development, industrialization, security, erosion control, and transportation. Only verifiable project shall be cited, and assessment of the scorecard shall be based on the constitutional functions of both parties,” the letter added.
“In reaction to your ordering African Independent Television (AIT) on the 4th of August 2014 to stop the airing of the documentary put together by the Oro people in order to draw the attention of the Federal Government and indeed the general public to their plight and the gargantuan level of decay in their state of livelihood and infrastructure in the five Local Government Areas of the Constituency; despite the fact that these five Local Government Areas account for over 80% of the revenue accruing to State,” the statement further stated.
