UNIUYO GETS DUAL CARRIAGE WAY FROM AKSG




Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State  has announced plans to construct a dual carriage expressway  from the road into the main campus of the University of Uyo.
The Governor announced this at the 21st Convocation Ceremony of the university.
He said the carriageway which construction will commence next year would enhance the aesthetics and check traffic congestion into and out of the University campus.
The Governor awarded a post graduate scholarship to Miss Nsidibe Solomon Etuk of the Music Department for emerging the overall best graduating student. She is to study to any level in the institution of her choice.
He congratulated the outgoing vice chancellor of the university Professor Comfort Ekpo and expressed delight at the giant strides recorded at the institution.
Governor Emmanuel also congratulated the University Chancellor Alhaji Abubakar Maje, on his conferment of an honorary Doctorate Degree in Political Science, the Special Assistant to the President on Legislative Matters, Senator Ita Enang who was awarded an honorary Doctorate Degree in Law, a foremost Industrialist Mrs Folorunsho Alakija and traditional music maestro Chief UKO Akpan Ekpo Umana.
The Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission Professor Julius Okojie who represented President Mohammadu Buhari, assured of the Federal Government commitment to improve the quality of education in the country with emphasis on Information and Communication Technology.
He added that this will enable graduating students to be self reliant and compete favourably with their counterparts anywhere in the world.
Earlier in her valedictory address, the Vice Chancellor Professor Comfort Ekpo, commended the University Governing Council, Staff and Students of the institution for the support given her throughout her tenure.
She thanked the award recipients for their contributions to humanity as well as the University.
Professor Ekpo said that the University ranks the tenth  in the category of outstanding institutions in the country with all the courses  and programmes fully accredited by the National Universities Commission.
She enjoined the people to extend their support to the in- coming Vice Chancellor.
A total of 3,948 graduating students bagged diploma and degrees in various discipline.
